The Institute of Care-Giving Education at Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, has announced a comprehensive upgrade of its curriculum to meet international standards in geriatric and paediatric care.
This initiative follows the transformation of the former Centre for Nanny Education into a full-fledged institute addressing the increasing care needs of contemporary society.
During a Christmas event for students and staff, the Director of the Institute, Associate Professor Mrs. Blessing Udeh, explained that the revised curriculum aligns with global professional demands, enhancing the institute’s mission to train competent caregivers. Since its inception in 2019, the institute has produced numerous graduates now serving in hospitals, private homes, and elderly care facilities both within Nigeria and abroad.

Professor Udeh further emphasised the institute’s commitment to community service, including traffic control support, fitness exercises, and health monitoring initiatives. She encouraged families, institutions, and health organisations to engage graduates for professional and reliable caregiving services.
The Chairperson of the event, Barrister Mrs. Ngozi Akasike, highlighted the rise in preventable deaths due to inadequate care and advised the public to prioritise health monitoring to reduce strain on hospitals and mortuaries.
In his vote of thanks, Commander Ikechukwu Nwizu, representing students and staff, commended the academic and administrative personnel for their dedication, assuring that graduates of the institute would apply their training effectively to benefit society.
