How UDUS Graduate, Mahmud Mistura Ajoke Achieved an Impressive 4.81 CGPA

Achieving a first-class degree is often seen as a demanding battle, requiring dedication, strategy, and resilience. However, Mahmud Mistura Ajoke, a graduate of Applied Chemistry, surpassed limitations and secured an impressive 4.81 CGPA, proving that with determination and the right approach, academic excellence is possible.

Mistura’s passion for chemistry did not come easily. In secondary school, she initially struggled with the subject, finding it challenging to grasp core concepts. However, with the encouragement of Mr. Odunsanya, her subject tutor, and her uncle, Mr. Salaudeen Abdulrafiu, she gradually developed a love for chemistry. Their guidance and inspiring stories of overcoming similar struggles motivated her to push beyond her limitations and set high academic goals.

Determined to succeed in her undergraduate studies, Mistura committed herself to active learning rather than passive reading. Her most effective study technique was self-testing—after covering a topic, she would create and answer her own questions. This helped her retain information better, identify knowledge gaps, and develop a deeper understanding of concepts.

Like many first-class graduates, Mistura faced significant challenges. Adapting to the rigorous coursework, balancing academics with extracurricular activities, and overcoming self-doubt were some of the hurdles she had to cross. To manage her time effectively, she prioritized difficult subjects, allocated extra hours for studying, and ensured she took breaks to prevent burnout.

Handling difficult courses required strategy. Whenever she encountered challenges, she sought help from her coursemates and lecturers, and for mathematics-related difficulties, she turned to Robiu Onisona Qodir for guidance. Rather than allowing tough courses to discourage her, she used them as motivation to work even harder.
