Kaduna State University Hosts CL4STEM Education Workshop to Enhance Innovative Teaching Strategies
Kaduna State University (KASU) hosted a Connected Learning for STEM (CL4STEM) workshop on January 16, 2025, aimed at enhancing innovative teaching strategies for 21st-century STEM education. The event, held at the Faculty of Education, emphasized skill improvement and collaboration.
Kaduna State University (KASU) recently hosted a Connected Learning for STEM (CL4STEM) education workshop with the theme, “School Based Scaling of Innovative Teaching Strategies for 21st Century STEM Education.” The event took place on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the university’s Faculty of Education and aimed to enhance innovative teaching strategies while fostering collaboration among educators.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor of KASU, Prof. Abdullahi I. Musa, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Strategy, Innovation, and Service Delivery, Prof. Helen Afang Andow, opened the workshop, emphasizing the importance of skill enhancement and active participation in the education sector. She highlighted the need for continuous improvement to meet the evolving demands of 21st-century education.
The Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Muhammad Muftahu, who was represented by Dr. Joseph Duniya, the Head of the Science Education Department, underscored the significance of preparing students with future-ready skills and fostering teamwork in education. Mrs. Adama Abdullahi Wada from the Kaduna State Ministry of Education also addressed the participants, urging them to fully leverage the resources and benefits provided by the program.
Dr. Fatima S. Kabir, the Kaduna State Coordinator for CL4STEM, presented innovative teaching practices and introduced the CL4STEM approach. This approach seeks to bridge formal and informal learning environments, using personalized learning pathways, real-world applications, and technology-enhanced strategies. Despite challenges like resource limitations and resistance to change, Dr. Kabir emphasized the substantial benefits of adopting these practices for improving STEM education in the state.
The workshop also featured contributions from KASU's CL4STEM Teacher Educators—Dr. Umar Aliyu, Dr. Sarah Usman, and Dr. Samira Dahiru. These experts led interactive group discussions on innovative CL4STEM modules and the development of Communities of Practice, providing participants with valuable insights into modern teaching methods.
The event concluded with a heartfelt thank-you from Dr. Halliru Khidir, who expressed gratitude to all the attendees for their active participation and commitment to enhancing STEM education in the region.
This workshop marks a significant step forward in empowering educators and equipping them with the necessary tools to deliver cutting-edge STEM education to students across Kaduna State.
