The Directorate of Research Management and Innovation (DRMI) at Lagos State University (LASU) collaborated with the National Office for Technology Acquisition And Promotion (NOTAP) to conduct a two-day training workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and the inauguration of the Intellectual Property Rights and Technology Transfer Office (IPRTTO).

The Directorate of Research Management and Innovation (DRMI) at Lagos State University (LASU) recently joined forces with the National Office for Technology Acquisition And Promotion (NOTAP) for a groundbreaking two-day training workshop focused on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and the inauguration of the Intellectual Property Rights and Technology Transfer Office (IPRTTO). The event, held on May 13th and 14th, 2024, at the Senate Chamber of LASU Main Campus, Ojo, aimed to empower academic staff members with insights into technology transfer, commercialization, and the significance of intellectual property rights.

Gracing the occasion were esteemed members of LASU's Management, with Vice Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, officially inaugurating the workshop. She commended the collaborative efforts and expressed gratitude to the distinguished guests and Resource Persons. Prof. Olatunji-Bello lauded the DRMI team, particularly Director Prof. Adejuwon Adeneye, for spearheading the establishment of the IPRTTO. This joint initiative with NOTAP and the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology positions LASU to bolster its intellectual property portfolio, encompassing patenting, copyright, and technology licensing.

The workshop featured enlightening lectures, with Dr. Idoreyin Imiyoho, Acting Director-General of NOTAP (represented by Mrs. Caroline M. Anie-Osuagwu, Director, Technology Acquisition & Research Coordinator), providing an overview of intellectual property and NOTAP's pivotal role in its promotion. Lecture series included "Intellectual Property Asset Management" and "IP Policy For R &D Purposes," delivered by Mrs. C.M. ANIE-OSUAGWU and Mr. E.D. Archibong, respectively.

A pivotal moment occurred as Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, officially commissioned the LASU Intellectual Property Rights and Technology Transfer Office (IPRTTO). She underscored the workshop's significance in bridging the university-industry gap and fostering innovative solutions for societal impact. Emphasizing a "Train the Trainers" approach, she urged participants to disseminate acquired knowledge widely among colleagues.

Day Two of the workshop delved deeper into practical aspects, with sessions on "Drafting of Patent Specifications" and "Patent Databases and Search Techniques." Facilitators, including Engr. E. I. Moghalu and Mr. Kenny Ayoade Shalom from NOTAP, guided participants through these crucial topics, fostering a comprehensive understanding of intellectual property rights.
