Lagos State University (LASU) reaffirmed its dedication to advancing STEM education with the inauguration of its Science Laboratory Complex as part of the Africa Centre of Excellence for Innovative and Transformative STEM Education (LASU-ACEITSE).

In a significant stride towards bolstering STEM education, Lagos State University (LASU) Africa Centre of Excellence for Innovative and Transformative STEM Education (LASU-ACEITSE) recently inaugurated its Science Laboratory Complex. Speaking at the event, Vice Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello reiterated LASU's commitment to internationalization and its aspiration to become the premier institution in West Africa.

The commissioning of the laboratory complex follows a recent visit by a World Bank delegation, led by Mr. Elijah Sakpere and Prof. Ahmed Abdullahi, who lauded the project's quality and environmental impact. The complex boasts state-of-the-art facilities including science education laboratories for Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and ICT, alongside classrooms, seminar rooms, and offices, all equipped with research materials and equipment.

Supported by the World Bank, LASU-ACEITSE aims to enhance STEM teaching and learning, serving as a Federal Government-approved initiative for training exemplary STEM teachers. Pioneer Director Emeritus Professor Peter Okebukola emphasized the need for progressive STEM education policies, urging their implementation and monitoring.

Dr. Joshua Atah, National Coordinator of ACE Impact, Nigeria, praised LASU's leadership and urged sustained efforts to meet project goals. With only 13 months remaining, he emphasized the importance of capacity-building and achieving project milestones.

In her address, Prof. Olatunji-Bello affirmed LASU's dedication to the ACE-Impact Project, highlighting the institution's continuous improvement in academic and administrative performance. She credited the strategic decisions and support from Prof. Okebukola for elevating LASU's global standing. Since its inception in 2018, LASU-ACEITSE has played a pivotal role in capacity-building, extending its reach beyond registered students to benefit other students and staff.
