Sam Maris University Set to Launch Nursing Science Programme in 2024/2025 Academic Session

This declaration was made during a briefing with stakeholders who visited the university on Tuesday to assess its facilities.
Prof. Gbore emphasized the university's commitment to delivering high-quality education in various disciplines, including Applied Sciences. He revealed that Sam Maris University has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) to introduce a Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.N.Sc.) degree. The programme will commence in the 2024/2025 academic session, making SMU the first university in Akokoland to receive such approval from the NMCN.
Highlighting the university’s readiness, the Vice-Chancellor also announced that SMU will offer two additional Allied Health Science programmes—Medical Laboratory Science and Public Health—with approvals from the NUC already in place. He reassured stakeholders that the university has the necessary human resources, laboratories, and clinical experience arrangements to provide comprehensive training.
“Our institution has established a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with relevant state and federal government organs, including the Federal Medical Centre in Owo, to facilitate the clinical component of the Nursing Science degree programme,” Prof. Gbore noted.
He further disclosed that SMU has invested heavily in cutting-edge teaching aids, medical laboratories, and modern equipment to ensure that students receive top-tier education. In addition, highly qualified and experienced lecturers have been employed to provide expert mentorship and guidance in core areas of nursing science.
