TECNO Mobile Improves UNILAG's Linguistics and Language Learning Facilities
In a remarkable development, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) achieved a significant milestone on October 23, 2023, with the generous contribution of a Digital Language Learning Laboratory to its Department of Linguistics, African and Asian Studies within the Faculty of Arts. This invaluable donation was graciously provided by Tecno Mobile, a prominent mobile phone manufacturer.
Mr. Jack, the General Manager of Tecno Mobile Nigeria, led the presentation of this exceptional gift, joined by other esteemed members of the company, including the Human Resource Manager, Mrs. Oluwaseto Ajibogere Bademosi.
The unveiling ceremony, witnessed by students and faculty members of the Faculty of Arts, was graced by the presence of Professor Mudashiru Ilupeju, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, who also stood in as a representative for the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, OON, FAS.

Mrs. Bademosi underscored Tecno Mobile's dedication to advancing education, championing technological progress, and enhancing the educational journey within Nigerian universities. In line with this commitment, she announced Tecno Mobile's pledge to facilitate internship and employment opportunities for five outstanding graduating students each session, thereby contributing to research and scholarship efforts.

Dean Ilupeju emphasized the profound significance of Tecno Mobile's donation to the faculty and the University. He praised the Digital Language Learning Laboratory as an embodiment of UNILAG's mission to provide a top-notch educational experience for both students and staff.
The unveiling event also provided a platform for Professor Obi Iwuagwu and Professor Zhao Hongling, the Directors of the UNILAG Confucius Institute, to emphasize the importance of acquiring a second language. Professor Iwuagwu articulated, "Anyone who has no second language proficiency is as good as being called an illiterate," and Professor Hongling highlighted the growing demand for Mandarin Chinese proficiency, emphasizing China's surging growth and the need for professionals with Mandarin language skills.
The newly gifted laboratory is equipped with cutting-edge technology and modern amenities meticulously designed to elevate the learning experience for students in the Department of Linguistics, African and Asian Studies (LAAS). The facility includes advanced audio-visual equipment, interactive whiteboards, high-speed internet connectivity, and state-of-the-art language learning software, offering students interactive modules for language acquisition and practice to foster immersive learning.

As a part of the unveiling ceremony, a student from the Department of English Language, Faculty of Arts, Ikuesan Olawale Ayomikun, was awarded a Tecno Spark 10 phone through a raffle draw competition, while several other valuable gifts were distributed to students in attendance.
