The Faculty of Education, Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has inducted its seventh batch of graduating teachers into the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).

The ceremony, held on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the University Auditorium, Main Campus, Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, marked a significant milestone in the professional journey of the inductees.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of the occasion, Prof. OtoAbasi E. Akpan, represented by the Head of Obio Akpa Campus and Dean, Faculty of Management Science, Prof. Nkanikpo I. Ibok, congratulated the graduands on their successful induction. He urged them to put into practice the knowledge and skills acquired during their training, maintain integrity, and strive for professional excellence.

Delivering the goodwill message of the TRCN, the Registrar and Chief Executive, Dr. Ronke Soyombo, represented by the Acting State Coordinator, TRCN Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Akaninyene Ekpah, praised the university’s management, the Faculty of Education, and the organising committee for their commitment to the teaching profession. She described teaching as a noble calling that shapes generations, advising the inductees to uphold TRCN ethics, embrace innovation, and integrate technology in their professional development to ensure continuous growth.

The induction lecture, delivered by Dr. Cecilia Ereh of the Department of Curriculum Studies, Educational Management and Planning, University of Uyo, stressed that societal transformation begins in the classroom. She called for continuous empowerment of teachers through lifelong learning, innovative pedagogy, reflective practice, and professional networking.

Dean of the Faculty of Education, Dr. Iniobong F. Akpan, expressed appreciation to past Deans, including Prof. Franca Anijaobi-Idem, who pioneered the programme, and Dr. Patrick J. Uko, who built upon its foundation. He reiterated the faculty’s commitment to professional development and encouraged students to maintain poise, confidence, and professional decorum.

Other goodwill messages came from Prof. Franca Anijaobi-Idem, Director of the Centre for Continuing Education, and Dr. Dominic Ekpo, Dean of Students Affairs, who urged the inductees to uphold integrity, dedication, and the passion to inspire future generations.

Head of the Department of Science Education, Dr. Felicia Umana, delivered the vote of thanks, appreciating the university management, guests, and all who contributed to the success of the event. Representing the inductees, Teacher Udom Francis expressed gratitude to God and the institution, describing the induction as both an affirmation of their commitment to excellence and a launchpad for their careers.

Highlights of the ceremony included the administration of the Oath of Allegiance and the formal admission of inductees into the TRCN by the council’s representative. Earlier, TRCN officials and the Faculty of Education Management had paid a courtesy visit to the Acting Vice-Chancellor at the Senate Chamber.

The event was attended by senior university officials, lecturers, students, and staff, including the Registrar, Dr. Ebi G. Eno-Ibanga, FNIM (represented by Mr. Raphael Ukeme), the Acting Director, Central Research Laboratory, Dr. Imeh J. Okop, TRCN Desk Officer, Dr. Ayanime O. Akpan, and the Faculty Officer, Mrs. Iseobong Ekong.
