In a groundbreaking collaboration, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has partnered with the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) to establish the Institute of Social Policy Studies. This initiative, unveiled at the Nsukka campus, aims to address critical social issues through research, education, and policy advocacy.
Mr. Olusoji Akinleye, Officer-In-Charge of UNICEF Enugu Field Office, highlighted the longstanding collaboration between UNICEF and UNN, emphasizing their shared commitment to leveraging academia for social impact. He underscored UNICEF's role in capacity building, logistical support, and financial assistance to bolster the institute's initiatives.
Professor Okey Ikeanyibe, Director of the Institute and a seasoned expert in Administration and Policy at UNN, emphasized the need for specialized expertise in crafting effective social policies. He lamented the misconception that social policy is an "all comers' affair," pointing out its detrimental impact on past initiatives. The institute aims to rectify this by offering rigorous academic programs and collaborating closely with UNICEF to ensure sustainability.
