BUK Forges Partnership with SIMAD University, Somalia for Academic Exchange

Bayero University, Kano takes a leap towards international collaboration by formalizing an MoU with SIMAD University, Somalia. The agreement, signed on Monday, 19th February 2024, paves the way for academic exchanges in areas such as Engineering, Allied Health Sciences, Agriculture, Biotechnology, and more.

A three-person delegation from Somalia, led by Ambassador Jamal Barrow and including Professor Tahir Hassan Abdi and Dr. Abdulkarim Mohaidin Ahmed, visited Bayero University to solidify the MoU.

 

Ambassador Jamal Barrow expressed appreciation for the warm reception and shared hopes that the collaboration would accelerate the growth trajectory of both institutions.

 

Vice Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, conveyed his delight at the visit and emphasized the university's openness to partnerships that benefit both parties. Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Professor Sani Muhammed Gumel, represented the Vice Chancellor during the discussions.

The Somali delegation carefully selected Bayero University for collaboration, citing its reputation as one of the country's leading institutions.

 

Areas of collaboration outlined in the MoU include Engineering, Allied Health Sciences, Agriculture, and Biotechnology.

 

SIMAD University's Rector emphasized the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Somalia and highlighted the goal of facilitating student and lecturer exchanges between the two universities.

As part of the MoU signing ceremony, the Somali delegation toured important locations on Bayero University's campuses, including the 3.5MW Solar Plant and the Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA).

 

This collaboration marks a significant step in Bayero University's commitment to fostering international partnerships and providing diverse learning opportunities for its students and faculty.
