The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), reiterated the critical role of the Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) in the career development of graduates during an orientation for 400-level students. The event, held at the Obafemi Awolowo auditorium, prepared 2,890 students for a six-month practical experience in various industries.

Vice Chancellor Professor Adenike Oladiji, represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, Professor Taiwo Amos, emphasized SIWES’s role in producing competent indigenous manpower essential for national development. “SIWES bridges the gap between theoretical training and practical application,” said Oladiji, stressing FUTA's commitment to strengthening its Industrial Training Unit to meet contemporary demands.

Deputy Director of the Industrial Training Unit, Mr. Josiah Oluwalaanu, highlighted FUTA’s reputation for sending disciplined and dedicated students into the workforce. He noted that many past participants had introduced innovative ideas that significantly benefited their host organizations.

The keynote address was delivered by Alhaji Suleman Rauf, Area Manager of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) Akure Area Office. He encouraged students to acquire diverse skills and adhere to workplace rules and safety measures.

The Head of Training at the ITF Akure Area Office, Mrs. Grace Ajagbe, advised students on the importance of dedication, punctuality, honesty, and humility during their industrial training. Dean of Students Affairs, Professor David Oke, represented by Sub Dean Dr. Okewale Adeniyi, outlined the university’s expectations, emphasizing regular attendance, proper conduct, and accurate logbook entries.

Chairperson of the Industrial Training Unit, Professor Oyetunji, commended the collaborative efforts of the university management, ITU staff, and ITF Akure Area Office in organizing the orientation. She urged students to adhere strictly to the scheme’s guidelines to maximize their learning experience.
