FUTA, Osun College of Technology Moot Collaboration on HND/B.Tech Top-Up Programme

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) and the Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke (OSCOTECH) have initiated discussions on an HND/B.Tech Conversion and Top-Up Programme to enhance academic progression and professional qualifications for polytechnic graduates.

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) and the Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke (OSCOTECH) have initiated discussions on a collaborative framework for an HND/B.Tech Conversion and Top-Up Programme. The initiative aims to enhance academic progression for polytechnic graduates and strengthen professional qualifications.

A high-level meeting was held at FUTA on March 25, 2025, bringing together principal officers and key representatives from both institutions. The discussions focused on expanding educational access and developing highly skilled manpower to meet industry demands in Nigeria and beyond.

The partnership seeks to bridge the academic gap between HND and B.Tech holders, equipping graduates with advanced knowledge and competencies. It also reinforces FUTA’s leadership in technology-driven education and commitment to fostering academic excellence through strategic alliances.

Speaking on the collaboration, FUTA’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Timothy Amos, emphasized the importance of upgrading polytechnic graduates’ qualifications to align with global standards. “This partnership is designed to provide polytechnic graduates with an opportunity to upgrade their qualifications in line with industry demands. At FUTA, we are committed to ensuring that the curriculum is robust and relevant, equipping students with the skills needed to thrive in today’s competitive job market,” he said.

The Rector of OSCOTECH, Dr. Samson Adegoke, commended FUTA for its leadership in technological education. He highlighted that the collaboration would open new avenues for students seeking academic and professional advancement. Dr. Adegoke also noted that OSCOTECH has enjoyed a strong, informal relationship with FUTA, and the partnership aims to formalize mutual benefits such as staff exchange and student training. “We are optimistic that this partnership will yield remarkable outcomes, not just for the participating institutions but for the entire education sector in Nigeria,” he stated.

FUTA’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, described the initiative as a critical step in fulfilling the university’s mandate. She reaffirmed FUTA’s commitment to technological advancement and innovation-driven education. “This collaboration presents an opportunity to develop manpower for our country and other nations. It is a strategic move to strengthen our educational system and provide enormous benefits through partnership,” she noted.

Professor Oladiji further disclosed that while the Top-Up Centre is still in its early stages, FUTA envisions expanding access to quality education and ensuring that the programme meets national and global demands. The collaboration between FUTA and OSCOTECH marks a significant milestone in advancing higher education and professional development in Nigeria.
