House of Representatives Calls for Compulsory Enrollment of Out-of-School Children

The House of Representatives has passed a resolution urging state governments to mandate the enrollment of children in school, aiming to tackle the issue of out-of-school children in Nigeria. The decision also calls for relevant state agencies to take action against children found loitering during school hours, with their parents facing appropriate consequences.

Following deliberations, the House made several recommendations, including:
1. Urging the federal government to increase budgetary allocation for education to facilitate free basic education for all Nigerian children.
2. Calling on the Ministry of Education to ensure the implementation of free basic education without hidden charges.

3. Directing the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to establish minimum standards for basic education and ensure strict monitoring and auditing of teaching and non-teaching staff.
