A delegation from the Institute of Community Health recently visited Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), to explore collaborative opportunities for introducing new courses in the Department of Community Health. The initiative aims to enhance the existing curriculum and add value to the educational offerings of both institutions.
Dr. Risikat Onawola, head of the delegation, explained that the visit was designed to assess the current curriculum, identify gaps in community health education, and discuss potential course offerings that align with the missions of both the Institute and NSUK. “We are eager to collaborate with your department to introduce vital courses such as Community Mental Health, Community Health Disaster Control, and Humanity Development,” Dr. Onawola stated. She emphasized that these new courses would equip students with practical skills essential for effectively addressing community health issues.
In response, the Vice-Chancellor, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Professor Abdullahi Sallau Modibbo, reaffirmed the university's commitment to embracing innovative ideas that benefit society and enhance educational systems. To facilitate this collaboration, a nine-member Technical Committee has been established, chaired by Professor Yakubu Boyi Ngwai, Coordinator of the College of Medical and Health Sciences. The committee will consist of members from both NSUK and the Institute of Community Health.
This partnership underscores NSUK's dedication to advancing community health education and addressing urgent public health challenges through collaborative efforts.
