NANS Calls for Student Representation in Governance

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) is advocating for student representation in governance by urging state governors to appoint student representatives as special advisers. This initiative aims to foster better communication between students and government officials, ensuring the prioritization of student welfare and educational development.

In a statement issued by NANS Senate President, Akinteye Babatunde, the association emphasized the critical need for increased investments in education and the provision of adequate infrastructure and resources for learning institutions. Babatunde highlighted the pivotal role governors can play in contributing to national development by prioritizing education and student welfare.

NANS commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for their exemplary leadership and commitment to student welfare. Specifically, NANS praised Governor Sanwo-Olu's appointment of former student leaders as Senior Special Assistants and Governor Makinde's initiative to provide buses to tertiary institutions in Oyo State.

Governor Sanwo-Olu recently announced the appointment of four former Students Union leaders as Senior Special Assistants and an increase in scholarships and bursaries for students of Lagos State origin in tertiary institutions. These initiatives demonstrate a proactive approach to addressing the needs of students and prioritizing education as a cornerstone of development.
