NOUN VC Urges Retiring Staff to Share Insights at Pre-Retirement Workshop

The Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has urged retiring staff to share their experiences and insights with colleagues during a pre-retirement workshop held at Hogis Luxury Suites in Calabar, Cross River State.

The workshop, organized by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) in collaboration with NOUN’s Directorates of Staff Training and Development and Entrepreneurship and General Studies, took place from October 8 to 11, 2024. It aimed to prepare staff nearing retirement for the challenges of post-retirement life.

“Let’s continue to support one another in our journey toward a fulfilling post-retirement life,” the Vice-Chancellor stated, emphasizing the importance of implementing learned strategies in both personal and professional spheres.

The workshop covered various topics, including retirement planning, business and investment opportunities, financial management, and stress management techniques. Participants also engaged in light workouts and were trained by seasoned facilitators from ITF.

Participants expressed appreciation for the workshop and suggested future sessions be held earlier, ideally five years before retirement, to allow ample time for preparation. They also proposed including industry professionals and organizing site visits within the workshop host state for a more enriching experience.
