Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has achieved a significant milestone, generating over ₦1.5 million from vegetable sales in just three months. This accomplishment was announced by the university's Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, during the presentation of the university’s organizational review report at the Senate Chambers on Tuesday.
Prof. Omenugha emphasized the university's commitment to becoming a leading educational institution in the South East and beyond, highlighting the importance of adopting a private sector mentality to drive growth and innovation. She reiterated the university's focus on exploring various revenue streams, particularly through agricultural initiatives, as part of its strategy to achieve financial sustainability.
"Our goal is to transform this University into a leading educational institution, not just a factory for producing graduates," Prof. Omenugha stated. She encouraged staff to maintain their dedication to work, ensuring adherence to regulations that enhance service delivery and overall performance.
The Acting Vice Chancellor also spotlighted the opportunities provided by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund's (TETFUND) Institutional Based Research (IBR) program, urging recipients to aim for publications in prestigious international journals. She reassured the university community that staff welfare remains a priority as the management works to improve operational efficiency.
COOU’s success in vegetable sales reflects the university’s broader strategy to integrate agricultural ventures with academic excellence, setting the stage for a prosperous future in both education and agriculture.
