TRCN Inducts 759 New Teachers at Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo

The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has formally inducted 759 individuals into the teaching profession at Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, marking a major milestone in professional education in the country.

The cohort comprised 707 degree holders, 52 Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) holders, and 2 master’s degree holders. The induction ceremony took place on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the Olusegun Obasanjo Auditorium on the AFUED campus.

In her keynote address, Dr. (Mrs.) Ronke Soyombo, Registrar and Chief Executive of TRCN, described the occasion as a landmark achievement. Represented by Mrs. Olufunlayo Oniyide, she highlighted that by completing the programme, the inductees have joined a professional community “re-defined by innovation, integrity, and impact.” Dr. Soyombo emphasized the critical role of teachers as mentors, motivators, and transmitters of knowledge, urging them to uphold ethics, embrace technology, and pursue excellence to remain relevant in society. She further stressed that any breach of the oath of practice carries serious legal consequences, reaffirming TRCN’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the profession.

The Registrar also outlined recent initiatives by TRCN aimed at elevating the teaching profession in Nigeria, including the Digital Teacher Portal, AI integration, Standardized Lesson Note Templates, Career Path Framework, and Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD).

Speaking on behalf of AFUED, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola lauded TRCN for its unwavering commitment to professional standards in education and welcomed the removal of the one-year validity period on TRCN certificates, noting that this decision facilitates easier processing for graduates. He encouraged the inductees to enter the profession with confidence, diligence, and integrity, and hinted at a new initiative to confer awards on eminent personalities contributing to Nigerian education, starting next year.

Also addressing the graduates, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede, AFUED Registrar, encouraged them to view teaching as a “God-ordained process”, highlighting their responsibility to mould character, instill discipline, and nurture future leaders.

The event attracted prominent attendees, including Prof. Ireti Folasade Alao (Deputy Vice-Chancellor), Mr. Taye Omotayo (Bursar’s representative), senior TRCN officials from Ondo State, and AFUED staff and students.

The ceremony concluded with congratulations for the graduates and a reaffirmation of their role as ambassadors of excellence for both TRCN and AFUED.
