The Dean of the Faculty of Education, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Simeon Oladipo, has called on education students to see themselves as role models and positive influencers as they embark on a compulsory 12-week teaching practice. The exercise, which will run from September 16 to December 6, 2024, places over 1,800 student-teachers in primary and secondary schools across Lagos State.

Speaking at the 2024/2025 Teaching Practice Orientation Exercise held on Wednesday, September 4, at the Jelili Omotola Multipurpose Hall, Prof. Oladipo emphasized the need for moral re-awakening among schoolchildren, urging the student-teachers to use the opportunity to instill knowledge and values. "This is your chance to showcase everything you have learned and to be ambassadors of UNILAG’s commitment to producing a fit-for-purpose workforce," he remarked.

The orientation event also featured presentations by Professor Mopelola Olusakin, who spoke on “Promoting Discipline and Positive Interpersonal Relationships,” and Dr. Funsho Olatunde, who focused on “Honing the Teaching Skills of Student-Teachers for Optimum Performance in the 21st Century.” Both speakers encouraged the students to approach their roles with professionalism and dedication, while senior faculty members and department heads offered their congratulations and advice.

The teaching practice coordinator, Dr. Stella Anyama, confirmed that the exercise is a key requirement for earning a Bachelor of Education degree, urging the student-teachers to be punctual, disciplined, and mindful of the rules and regulations at their various postings.
