FULafia Professor Dugga Advocates for Applied Theatre to Transform Nation
Professor Victor Samson Dugga, Dean of the FULafia Postgraduate School and a professor of applied theatre and social change, has urged governments to utilize theatre arts as a vehicle for social change, personal growth, and community development.

He made this call while delivering the 15th professorial inaugural lecture of FULafia, titled "Applied Theatre: The Science of Individual and Community Transformation."
Applied theatre, according to Dugga, employs theatre-based techniques to explore community issues, identify problems, and rehearse solutions, ultimately provoking social change. He emphasized that this field addresses pressing issues like racism, inequality, and poverty through storytelling and other theatrical techniques.

Dugga, a pioneer lecturer at FULafia's Department of Theatre and Media Arts, highlighted the need for deeper reflection and introspection on the application of theatre in Nigeria. He advocated for the approval of applied theatre as a full degree program in Nigerian universities and encouraged researchers to measure the impact of applied theatre projects.
The Vice-Chancellor of FULafia, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, commended Dugga for his excellent performance as Dean of the Postgraduate School. The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Jos, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, represented by Prof. Pic Onwochei, described Dugga as a worthy ambassador of the University.

The lecture was attended by dignitaries from various universities, including the vice-chancellors of Federal University, Lokoja, and Benue State University, Makurdi, as well as traditional leaders, clergymen, staff, and students.
