FUTA Launches Open and Distance Learning Programme with Virtual Orientation
The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has ushered in a groundbreaking phase with the inauguration of its Open and Distance Learning Programme. Conducted virtually, the orientation welcomed pioneer students enrolled in the B.Sc.

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has officially launched its Open and Distance Learning Programme with a virtual orientation for pioneer students enrolled in the B.Sc. Computer Science for the 2023/2024 academic session.
Presided over by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, the event was described as "epoch-making," marking a significant milestone in FUTA's commitment to expanding access to quality education. Professor Oladiji emphasized FUTA's dedication to excellence, reassuring students that the Open and Distance Learning Centre (ODLC) will maintain the university's high standards of education.
Addressing the pioneer students, Professor Oladiji congratulated them as "history makers" and future leaders, urging them to remain focused and determined in their academic pursuits. She acknowledged the challenges they may face but encouraged them to overcome obstacles with determination.
Professor Felix Alao, the Director of ODLC, expressed gratitude for witnessing the maiden virtual orientation ceremony and welcomed the e-Learners to FUTA. He highlighted the unique features of the FUTA ODLC, emphasizing its core mandate to provide access to quality education for working-class individuals and those unable to undertake full-time studies.

The virtual orientation and formal flag-off of the Centre also saw participation from key university officials, including the Registrar, Mr. Charles Adeleye, Associate Directors, Professor Mobalaji Stephen and Dr. Emmanuel Ibam, ODCL expert Dr. Ibrahim Makinde, and Admin Officer, Ifeoluwa Olagoroye.
The launch of the FUTA ODLC underscores the university's commitment to making knowledge and specialized training accessible to a broader audience, leveraging technology to deliver high-quality education in line with the approved undergraduate programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
