UNILAG Staff Cooperative Set to Hold AGM and Election of New Executive Officer

The Unique UNILAG Staff Cooperative Multipurpose Society Limited has announced that its Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at the J.F. Ade-Ajayi Auditorium of the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

The Unique UNILAG Staff Cooperative Multipurpose Society Limited has announced that its Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at the J.F. Ade-Ajayi Auditorium of the University of Lagos (UNILAG). This year’s AGM will also feature the election of new executive officers to fill several key positions within the society.

Positions Open for Election

The following positions will be contested during the election:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • General Secretary
  • Assistant General Secretary
  • Financial Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Chairman, Credit Committee
  • Chairman, Supervisory Committee

Eligibility Criteria for Contestants

To maintain the high standard of leadership in the cooperative, specific criteria have been established for those vying for positions:

Educational Qualifications: All contestants must possess a minimum of a First Degree or HND Certificate in any discipline.

Service Tenure:

For the posts of President, Vice President, General Secretary, and Treasurer, contestants must have been employed by the University of Lagos for at least fifteen (15) years and must have been members of the cooperative for ten (10) years. In addition, they are required to have relevant managerial experience.

For other positions, candidates must have worked at the university for at least ten (10) years and have been members of the cooperative for five (5) years.

Accounting Background: Contestants for the positions of Treasurer and Financial Secretary must have an accounting background, with possession of ICAN or ANAN certification being an added advantage.

Financial Obligations: Candidates must be consistent with their financial obligations, particularly in the areas of savings or loan repayment, for a period of five (5) years.

Retirement Eligibility: Contestants must have a minimum of three (3) years before their retirement date.

Sponsors: Each contestant is required to have two sponsors who have been cooperative members for at least five (5) years.

Voting Rights: While new members of the cooperative are eligible to vote, they are not allowed to contest for any position.

Election Timetable

The election process will be conducted according to the following schedule:

Sept. 25 – Oct. 8, 2024: Advertisement of vacant positions at the Unique Secretariat.

Oct. 8 – Oct. 15, 2024: Collection of nomination forms at the Unique Secretariat between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

Oct. 15 – Oct. 18, 2024: Submission of nomination forms at the same location and time.

Oct. 22, 2024: Screening of nomination forms and candidates from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Oct. 23 – Oct. 24, 2024: Publication of the list of eligible candidates.

Oct. 25 – Nov. 6, 2024: Campaign period for cleared candidates.

Nov. 7, 2024: Election day, with the following schedule:

8:00 AM – 11:00 AM: Accreditation of voters.

8:30 AM – 12:00 Noon: Voting.

12:30 PM – 1:00 PM: Counting of votes.

1:00 PM – 1:30 PM: Declaration of results.
