UNILORIN Hosts Workshop on AI-Driven Ethical Journalism for Campus Journalists
The University of Ilorin organized a one-day workshop themed “Equipping the Next Generation of Journalists with Best Industry Practices,” empowering campus journalists with tools like AI fact-checkers and reverse image search to combat misinformation and uphold media integrity.
The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Nigeria, recently demonstrated its dedication to advancing ethical and technology-driven journalism by hosting a workshop for members of the Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ). Themed “Equipping the Next Generation of Journalists with Best Industry Practices,” the workshop provided participants with practical insights and theoretical knowledge on modern journalistic practices.
Attendees were introduced to digital tools such as #MyAIFactChecker, reverse image search, and the Times’ Visual Guide on Generative AI, which are critical for enhancing reporting accuracy and combating misinformation. Facilitators Afeez Rabiu and Ibraheem Muhammad Mustapha led discussions on leveraging these tools effectively to maintain journalistic integrity.
The interactive sessions saw participants actively engaging, raising thoughtful questions, and demonstrating readiness to adopt these advanced methods in their reporting. Their enthusiasm reflected a collective commitment to fostering a future of responsible and accurate journalism.
This workshop is part of FactCheckAfrica's larger initiative to equip thousands of student journalists across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones with cutting-edge skills.
