FULafia, American university partner to dev agric
The Management of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) has expressed its readiness to partner with the Michigan State University, USA, to develop agriculture in Nasarawa State, in particular, and Nigeria in general.

The vice-chancellor of FULafia, Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman made the disclosure when he declared open a one-day Nasarawa State Agricultural Stakeholders' meeting convened by the Michigan State University to promote agriculture, eradicate hunger and poverty in the state and the world at large.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research and Partnerships, Prof. Samaila Usman Dakyes, the vice-chancellor said that FULafia was ready to partner with the University and other strategic partners to develop and promote new ways of agricultural production.

While appreciating the Michigan University and Nasarawa State Government for the choice of the Federal University of Lafia as the venue of the important stakeholders' engagement, the vice-chancellor said that FULafia has established a Centre for Agriculture and Rural Development Studies, (CARDS) to provide farming communities in Nasarawa State with technical support with a view to improving their agricultural production.
He said that the CARDS would develop and share new approaches to farming activities and make agriculture efficient and profitable, calling on farming communities in the state to take advantage of the centre and acquire knowledge on how to boost their agricultural activities.
Abdul Rahman used the occasion to express his gratitude to the Nasarawa State Government for collaborating with the University in many ways, saying that the agricultural stakeholders' engagement was one of them.

Prof. Duncan Broughton and Prof. Oyinkan Tasie, both resource persons from the Michigan State University, during their presentations, emphasised the importance of agriculture to the world and the need for stakeholders in Nasarawa State to develop ideas and skills to enhance productivity.
Also speaking, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, FULafia, Prof. Usman Alhassan, thanked the convener of the meeting for their initiatives, calling on them to sustain the partnership.

Prof S. A Okunsebor, the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, NSUK, Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment, Barr. Abubakar Mohammed Imam zanuwa, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Women Affairs. Ramatu Julde, Hon. Abdullahi Mohammed, Secretary to the farmers association of Nigeria, many academics and researchers.
