LASU Joins Forces with Spelman College and Other Lagos-based Universities for Collaborative Partnership

Lagos State University (LASU) has entered into a cooperative agreement with Spelman College, Atlanta, Georgia, USA, alongside two other prominent Lagos-based universities: the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Pan-Atlantic University. The signing ceremony took place on Monday, July 15, 2024, at the J.F. Ade-Ajayi Auditorium, marking a significant milestone in fostering international collaboration in higher education.

This landmark agreement aims to establish a robust framework for collaboration and cooperation among the four universities, focusing on advancing women's education, STEM education, creative industries, and faculty and student exchange programs. These initiatives are designed to create mutually beneficial opportunities and enhance academic and cultural exchanges.
The signing ceremony was preceded by a roundtable conversation featuring the leaders of the involved institutions: Dr. Helene Gayle of Spelman College, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola of UNILAG, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello of LASU, and Prof. Enase Okonedo of Pan-Atlantic University. The intellectual dialogue delved into strategies for leveraging the partnership to create new opportunities for faculty and students in a rapidly evolving global landscape.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello highlighted LASU’s commitment to maximizing the benefits of this partnership. She emphasized the university's plans to bolster its Africa Centre of Excellence for Innovative and Transformative STEM Education (ACEITSE), the newly established School of Tourism, Films, Performing Arts, and Cultural Studies, and the Disabilities Support Office. These efforts aim to enhance the university’s academic offerings and support services, driving forward its mission of providing inclusive and transformative education.
