The Hospitality and Tourism Management Department of the Centre for Diploma Programmes at Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) successfully conducted a practical session for its Year Two students on Saturday, 31st January 2026, at Oloto Hall.

The Hospitality and Tourism Management Department of the Centre for Diploma Programmes at Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) successfully conducted a practical session for its Year Two students on Saturday, 31st January 2026, at Oloto Hall.

The initiative reflects LASUED’s commitment to blending classroom theory with hands-on field experience, enabling students to develop industry-ready skills.

The session provided students the platform to demonstrate their culinary skills, presenting an array of dishes to guests, notable personalities, and the public. The exercise emphasized practical skill acquisition and professional competence, key pillars for success in the hospitality and tourism industry.

In his welcome address, Professor Shittu M.A., Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, highlighted that the programme aims to equip students with employable skills. He encouraged students to value their diploma qualifications, stressing that expertise and competence drive career success, while congratulating participants on their impressive performances.

Dr. Dejo Titilayo, part-time Coordinator of the department, explained that the session’s focus on culinary arts encompasses food preparation, cooking, and presentation. She also highlighted gastronomy as the scientific, cultural, and intellectual study of food, emphasizing the need to understand both the artistry and science behind culinary practices.

During the assessment, Professor Shittu evaluated the dishes and engaged students with thought-provoking questions to assess their proficiency. Parents expressed satisfaction, noting marked improvements in their children’s practical skills since enrollment.

Impressed by the high standard of presentations, Professor Shittu encouraged students to strive for even greater excellence, while urging external assessors to provide objective feedback to guide continuous improvement.

The practical session was deemed a resounding success, showcasing LASUED’s commitment to hands-on learning and preparing graduates for industry demands. The concluding segment of the programme is scheduled for Saturday, 7th February 2026, at the same venue.
