Governor Oyebanji Pledges Support for UCH and Indigent Medical Students
Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, announced that the Esther Oyebanji Foundation will support infrastructure projects at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, and sponsor indigent medical students.
Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has announced that the Esther Oyebanji Foundation, named after his late mother, will support ongoing infrastructure projects at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan. The foundation will also sponsor indigent medical students to help them realize their dreams of becoming medical doctors despite financial challenges.
Governor Oyebanji made this announcement during the induction ceremony of the 2024 set of medical graduates at UCH, where his daughter, Dr. Toluwanimi Oyebanji, was among the newly inducted doctors.
Responding to a heartfelt plea from Prof. Olayinka Omigbodun, Provost of the College of Medicine, who urged parents and well-meaning Nigerians to support the college and struggling students, Governor Oyebanji pledged personal and foundation support.
“I will make a personal donation to support the College and I will also get my late mother’s foundation to support the college and sponsor some indigent but brilliant students of the College so they can realize their dreams. Whatever we do will be in the name of the 2024 set,” said the Governor.

The Esther Oyebanji Foundation recently inaugurated the ultra-modern Abiyamo Esther Oyebanji Maternity Ward at the General Hospital, Aramoko-Ekiti, as part of its ongoing activities. This initiative underscores the foundation's commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and supporting medical education.
Congratulating the new doctors, Governor Oyebanji urged them to contribute their knowledge and expertise to the development of Nigeria’s healthcare system. He emphasized the importance of acquiring more knowledge and using it to benefit the country, drawing parallels to how other nations were developed by dedicated individuals.
“I don’t want to advise you not to seek greener pastures abroad. But, like your lecturers have advised, it is important you acquire more knowledge and expertise and deploy such to the development of the country. The places we travel to were developed by some people. So, let us also develop our country,” the Governor advised.
The induction ceremony was attended by prominent figures including the First Lady, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji; the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Kayode Adebowale; faculty members, and representatives of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).
Governor Oyebanji’s commitment to supporting UCH and indigent medical students highlights a significant step towards improving medical education and healthcare infrastructure in Nigeria.
