The management of Sa'adu Zungur University (SAZU) has dismissed allegations that 30 PhD holders have resigned from the institution due to poor salaries. In a press release, the university described the claims as "misleading, inaccurate, and unfounded."
According to SAZU, only six PhD holders have left the university in the past 22 months, citing personal reasons unrelated to salary concerns. The university's records show that:
- *Dismissals:* 6 persons, based on abscondment or disciplinary grounds
- *Sabbatical Leave:* 2 persons
- *Secondment:* 2 persons
- *Leave of Absence:* 1 person
SAZU emphasized its commitment to staff welfare and development, highlighting initiatives such as:
- *Timely salary payment* and other financial benefits
- *Promotions:* 5 professors, 2 readers, and 19 senior lecturers in 2022; 6 professors, 4 readers, and 17 senior lecturers in 2023
- *Training and retraining:* 100 academic staff trained on grant writing and proposals
- *Infrastructure development:* 2.8km access road and staff quarters construction
The university also clarified that staff are covered by the state government's retirement and death benefit policy.
SAZU urged the public to disregard the misleading report and verify information through official channels, welcoming constructive engagement and fact-based discussion.
