Hundreds of prospective students and their parents gathered in Topo town, Badagry, for the entrance examination into the Lagos State University School of Basic and Advanced Studies (LASUSBAS) Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board (JUPEB) programme for the 2024/2025 academic session. This highly competitive one-year A’Level programme allows students to gain direct entry into the 200-level of their chosen course at Lagos State University (LASU).

By 8 a.m., the quiet town had come to life as hopeful candidates arrived for the exam. The examination, organized under the supervision of the programme’s Director, Prof. Yunus Adeleke Dauda, alongside Deputy Director, Dr. Ronke Saibu, and Assistant Director, Dr. Waheed Akingbade, commenced promptly at 11 a.m. Candidates were divided into three main disciplines—Arts, Management Sciences, and Sciences—and completed the multiple-choice exam in about an hour and a half.

Following the examination, a School-Parent meeting was held, where Prof. Dauda addressed the parents, congratulating them on securing the opportunity for their wards to participate in the prestigious LASUSBAS JUPEB programme. He highlighted the programme’s competitive nature and the hard work required for success, urging parents to stay involved in their children’s education.

Prof. Dauda assured the parents that the quality of training and the track record of the School would give their wards a strong chance of excelling. He also praised the LASU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, for creating an enabling environment for academic excellence.

Other officials, including the Deputy and Assistant Directors, provided guidance on how parents could help their wards transition smoothly into the programme. The parents expressed satisfaction with the facilities and the organisation of the examination. The new session is set to commence later in September, with the results of the entrance exam expected soon.
